Hi,

Basically oracle Apps consist of three tier architecture

1) Desktop tier
2) Application Tier
3) Database Tier

Oracle file architecture are distributed and organized under directories known as top directories

The file system in Application tier consists of
a) DATA_TOP : Contains datafile used by oracle
applications
b) DB_TOP : Home for RDBMS

File system in Database tier (Server) consists of :
a)APPL_TOP : Application top directory contains oracle
product files.
b) ORA_TOP : Oracle Home for application technology
(IAS and oracle 8.0.6)
c) COMMON_TOP: Common file like log,output,JAVA,HTML
files.

Various subdirectories are present under this top directories

Regards
Vinod
